RINO Alert!!!

Jason "Gos" Weingartner

Here they go again folks. Jason Weingartner (former NYSYR Chairman and Treasurer) is running for YRNF Chairman against a good friend of not only the Republican Party but also New York and many of you reading this.

The problem is that Jason handpicked a "YR" from New Jersey to be on his slate as OUR Regional Vice Chair named Tony Howly.

Mr. Howly proudly endorsed a Democrat running for state senate when there was an actual YR in the race named James Sanford.

What makes matters worse is the way in which Mr. Weingartner was "endorsed" by the NYSYR. You see, Jason was "endorsed" on a conference call by the so-called officers of the NYSYR. Since the 3 Governing Documents oddly lack any mechanism to endorse candidates this was seen as legitimate by the outgoing/incoming (same people) board members even though Mr. Griffiths was never given an opportunity to speak to the members of the NYSYR. We guess you all don't matter.

At a later meeting it has been reported that Jason was endorsed by the members present at a quarterly meeting after some in attendance voiced their objection to the backroom endorsement. The officers present at that meeting made no mention of any other candidates running for the seat. Why would they? They prefer an ignorant membership.

After all, was the amount of money lost at the 2012 holiday party (Jason was treasurer at the time and oversaw the finances of the event) ever disclosed to the membership? Would that have made some members question his qualifications to run for higher office?

Was Jason's obstruction of the 2013 NYSYR electoral process ever disclosed and was the question ever asked by anyone as to why he would care if certain candidates ran for certain offices against certain incumbents? (more to come on that later)

Here's how the current Chairman, Diana Sepulveda sees it:

I am very excited to share with you some information about the Young Republican National Federation's 2013 Convention in Mobile, Alabama next month. As many of you know, our former Chairman of the New York State Young Republicans (2003 to 2000), Jason Weingartner, is running for Chairman of the YRNF on the YRNow2013 ticket.

Jason (or "Gos" as many of us know him) was the former President of the New York Young Republican Club, Inc. (2001 to 2004) and former Treasurer of the New York State Young Republicans (2001 to 2003 and 2007 to 2013). He is currently the Vice Chairman-at-Large for the YRNF since July of 2009.

The New York State Young Republicans have officially endorsed Jason and the YRNow2013 ticket. To learn more about Jason's platform & ticket, visit their website: YRNow2013.com

Question to her and the other officers: Do you support endorsing Democrats over Young Republicans too?

We do not and we suspect you don't either.

It is because of Mr. Weingartner's lack of judgement as treasurer and his blatant anti-Republican stance illustrated by selecting a NJYR that endorsed a Democrat over a Young Republican in a state senate race to be OUR Regional Vice Chair that we here at the Watch proudly endorse Brian Griffiths for YRNF Chairman and urge anyone attending the convention in Alabama to think long and hard before casting a vote for someone because of where they live.

By the way- Jason Weingartner lives in Queens, NY. There hasn't been a functioning county club there in years. Maybe he should start there.

We will be watching and will let you know how anyone from New York votes in Alabama next month so you can decide if they are fit to lead your organization.

Even as I write this, it's still  hard for me to believe. I never would have imagined that Tony Howley, the New Jersey YR chair and the YRNow candidate for Northeastern Regional Vice Chair endorsed a long-time incumbent Democrat for State Senate over a fellow Young Republican - but he did!

It's truly mind-boggling. James Sanford, a New Jersey Young Republican, is running for their state Senate, and Tony Howley endorsed the Democrat running against him. The YRNext team embraces those Young Republicans who make the sacrifice to stand as our party nominee in all circumstances, and YRNext fully endorses and supports James Sanford. I urge you to visit his Facebook page and click "Like" today: http://www.facebook.com/SanfordForSenate2013

It's hard to understand Tony's reasoning. Unfortunately, there seems to be a backstory between Howley and Sanford, as Howley took punitive action against Sanford’s local YR chapter in New Jersey. Sanford filed a complaint with the YRNF National Committee, which is languishing away in the bureaucratic process. Perhaps Tony Howley’s endorsement is retaliation against Sanford for continuing to pursue the issue.

Regardless of the reason, Tony Howley’s endorsement of a Democrat is profoundly disturbing and should disqualify him for party leadership at any level.

Our candidate for Northeastern Regional Vice-Chair, Maine State Chairman Jim Fossel, has a history of getting Young Republicans elected. In 2012, a difficult year for Republicans, he got two YRs elected to districts that are less than 30% Republican. Next year, he'll be fighting to elect a Republican to an open Congressional seat in his state. We need to fight for every single office, in every single district, in every single corner of the Northeast. Jim will do that. He won't give up on you, no matter what.

If you're as disturbed as I am that a candidate for YRNF leadership endorsed a Democrat, ask your state leadership if they support a team that turns a blind eye to leaders who will support the opposition. We need to work together to ensure that  Republican candidates at all levels, no matter how long the odds, have the support of their Republican leaders. We owe that to ourselves, our members, and our party.

Conservatively,

Brian Griffiths
Candidate for Chairman

  1. Got a tip from a friend.

Will be writing a story about it soon.

Does anyone in the NYSYR leadership actually petition in New York?

    From the email:

"So they're organizing to go to another state to help in a senate campaign - during petitioning?!?"

From Chairman Diana Sepulveda's mass email:

YR Help Needed for MA Special Election
    Gabriel Gomez for U.S. Senate

As some of you know, the 2013 Massachusetts Special Election date is quickly approaching. At this pivotal time in the campaign, help is needed to send the Republican candidate, Gabriel Gomez, to the U.S. Senate. Gabriel Gomez is part of the new generation of Republicans that we need in Washington - a son of Columbian immigrants, former Navy Seal, graduate from Harvard with an MBA, successful businessman. He has taken on the challenge of going against Democrat Ed Markey, a long-serving liberal Congressman out-of-touch with what this country needs. In 2010 volunteers from across the country rallied together and successfully sent Scott Brown to Washington, DC as a result of a special election, and we have the opportunity to do that again on June 25!

If you are able to make the trip to MA this weekend to help with door knocking and voter outreach, please contact Lindsey McLeod at LMCLEOD@GomezforMA.com.

So just because Gos picks people that prefer democratic candidates over young republican ones to be on his slate that somehow makes him a RINO?

The republican party needs more moderates like Weingartner to become competitive again. Jason is proving that he can work with democrats and won't toe the party line.

Brian Griffiths is too republican. Younger republicans are not conservative so I predict Gos will win and New York will be unanimously behind him.

Wait as sec... "Mr. Griffiths was never given an opportunity to speak to the members of the NYSYR." That's not true. He was invited to speak at the spring business meeting in Saratoga (I don't have the actual dates at my fingertips), and Brian registered in advance, but then didn't show. Let's be fair... if Brian didn't speak to the members of the NYSYR, it wasn't because he was denied an opportunity.

    1. Now you're just being dishonest here.

Jason was endorsed by the officers of the NYSYR board(s) prior to the spring business meeting in Saratoga.

Please let us know if we have that fact wrong.

The members endorsed Jason after the board did only because some members in attendance expressed their disapproval of the method used to endorse him.

Talk about hypocrisy. Why the hell would anyone running for anything show up at a meeting (and PAY to attend no less!) when the group's board "endorsed" your opponent??? Especially when the "endorsement" was given at Board meeting without County club input. The fix was in, but it shows they're inept as well. Had they held off on the "endorsement", they would have netted another registration fee!
