More Secrecy/Incompetence On Display

We have it on good authority that the election selection of officers at the NYSYR convention held in Richmond County, costing $85 per vote, on May 18th 2013 was conducted using a combination of Unit Rule and Secret Ballots.

You see, the county clubs caucused and then were handed ballots. The election tellers opened and counted the secret ballots. A final count was read aloud of the total votes cast by all counties combined and winners were selected.

There is no public record of how each county cast their unit of votes. The dummies in attendance don't even know how each county voted, including the candidates themselves!

This was probably done because there are several cowards in the NYSYR that did not want to upset Mr. Doyle or Ms. Belle (or others like GS, EL, JW, JG, NR, etc) by being on the record with their vote for one or the other.

So instead of doing the right thing the NYSYR did the easy/shady thing.

When a body/group/organization/club allows people (delegates) representing groups of other people (county clubs) to cast votes on their behalf then their votes must be made public.

Unit Rule is when a group casts a vote (or all of their entitled votes) for a particular candidate. In most bodies the group or unit caucuses and votes internally first. Once a majority is reached the group casts all of its votes for a candidate.

Think of it like the Electoral  College. When President Obama won New York State he got all 29 of our electoral votes. The election was our state's caucus and the electors are our delegates.

Note: Before one of you wise asses tries to pick this argument apart, we know that some states bind their electoral votes based on the popular vote and some don't. The NYSYRs do not allow the binding of votes so please don't respond by saying we are implying that.

How each state casts its unit of votes is public!

Secret ballots after caucusing is not compatible with unit rule or any form of a representative republic.

The only question we have is why didn't anyone say anything when this scheme was devised? It is clearly wrong.

All kidding aside, it is truly sad that there seems to be no one that sees how un-republican and undemocratic the NYSYRs is being run OR no one with any balls to speak up.

This one was a no-brainer and they screwed it up anyway.

Is this how you guys will conduct business if elected to a public office? God help our party and our nation...

It was my understanding that the votes by county would be made public in the minutes of the mtg. I have not yet seen these minutes, but I seem to be selectively emailed by the NYSYR. I suppose that the real answer to the question what are wet going to do about it will be answered by how many of us will pay in the future for the privilege to cast our "vote".

  2. If you aren't on their board(s) then you will only get emails containing what they want you to know. Its quite sovietesque and disgusting.

This is why we are here and we are happy to have your readership. And we will never charge you a fee to express your point of view ;)
