This email was sent to what appears to be the board(s) of the NYSYRs as well as to all YR county chairs/presidents.
We were asked to post it in its entirety and are happy to do so since we suspect many of you regular untitled YRs have not gotten a chance to read it.
Submitted by Russell Gallo.I am a member in Good Standing and respectfully submit the following proposed amendment for consideration by the membership of the NYSYRs.Justification:The right or freedom of association implies the converse, disassociation, to also be a right in a free society. The proposed amendments will guarantee that right to both current members of this organization and to their posterity. No club or organization except the military can force someone to remain a "member" for any period of time once the member no longer feels the club or organization is, or has become something other than, what they thought when they voluntarily joined. This proposed amendment simply codifies that right.I hope that each of you reads the entire amendment AND discusses it with your clubs before forming an opinion.Amendment attached and pasted below.Proposed Bylaw AmendmentAddition to Article IG Any Member can voluntarily relinquish its “credentialed status” (de-credential) by submitting written notification to the Corresponding Secretary who will forward the same to the Governing Board within seven days of receiving such notification. De-credentialing shall not preclude any Club from requesting credentialing at a later date.1 The notification must include the following information.a) De-credentialing Club’s Meeting Minutes showing that a vote was taken to de-credential with the New York State Young Republicans and passed by two-thirds of the Club’s Members present.b) A list of Members present and written confirmation from the President/Chairman of that club stating that there was a quorum.c) The Member Club seeking to de-credential may submit an updated membership list with the notification.2 The Member Club shall be deemed to have de-credentialed within seven days of the Governing Board’s receipt of the notification from the Corresponding Secretary if all required information is submitted.3 There shall be no vote by the Governing Board except as to whether or not all of the required information was submitted by the Member Club.4 If the Governing Board determines that there is required information missing, the Corresponding Secretary shall notify the Member Club within three days of such determination to submit any missing information.5 The Member Club may submit to the Corresponding Secretary the identified missing information or can withdraw its request to de-credential within 90 days. After 90 days the Member Club seeking to de-credential must submit a new notification with the information required in Section 1, a and b.6 Upon receipt of any missing information the Corresponding Secretary shall forward the same to the Governing Board within three days and the Governing Board shall have three additional days to request any further information required in Section 1, a and b.7 If any of the above time deadlines are missed by the Corresponding Secretary and/or Governing Board or the de-credentialing packet is deemed to be complete, the Member Club shall be considered de-credentialed immediately and all reference to said club shall be removed immediately from all media and correspondence generated or controlled by the NYSYRs with the exception that an email must be sent to all other Member Clubs identifying the de-credentialed club by name and stating that said club voluntarily relinquished its credentialed status.8 De-credentialing Clubs shall forfeit their credentialing fee and must submit a new credentialing fee in full if the Member Club seeks to credential at a later date.
This is great!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds nothing like what I was told by my club's president. I hope to be able to attend the meeting and cast my vote for it.
How can I become a delegate?
Great question...
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that your president or chair sends the list of delegates to the NYSYRs. So if he or she wants to vote against this or any other amendment he or she simply submits only the names of people from your club that they agree with.
Even if you show up in person there is no guarantee you will be granted delegate status by our NYSYR overlords.
In this case however, for only $15 you should get a hell of a show whether or not you are a delegate.
Not sure how this is controversial at all?
ReplyDeleteIf it is passed absolutely nothing will change. No clubs will be de-credentialed without following a detailed process that will overwhelmingly demonstrate their desire to no longer be affiliated with the NYSYRs.
The only way anyone could vote against this amendment is if they are voting to defeat the proponent of the amendment personally, haven't read and/or understood it, or are placing the NYSYR above the wants of its own members.
If the latter is the case then that speaks volumes for where they think the state organization is currently and the direction they perceive it to be heading.
If one of the former? Then shame on them.
Is that really "The RG?"
DeleteI will vote for it just to get rid of "The RG."
ReplyDeleteCall me whatever names you want and question my motives if you wish. I believe I have just laid all my cards on the table.
"I believe I have just laid all my cards on the table."
Delete-said the "Anonymous commenter" to the anonymous bloggers.
Why can't a club just not re-credential? I don't understand why we would want to encourage clubs to withdraw from the New York State Young Republicans.
ReplyDeleteGood question.
DeleteHere is a scenario that can happen.
A guy like Carl Paladino runs for governor again and the brain trust that runs the NYSYRs decides that he isn't their brand of republican and decides to endorse Andrew Cuomo (D) instead.
Most of the board(s) members in the NYSYRs work for elected officials and wouldn't want to see a republican on the top of the ticket that could hurt their boss.
On top of that, there is nothing in any of the NYSYR governing documents to prevent the organization from endorsing a democrat for any office.
If that were to happen in a backroom deal then why wouldn't a Member Club have the right to withdraw (de-credential) from the organization?
Remember the way the board(s) of the NYSYRs endorsed Jason Weingartner for YRNF Chair and then held a Stalinesque "show vote" with the actual members of the NYSYR? And that "show vote" only took place once some key NYSYR operatives caught wind that some members were prepared to expose what the board(s) did at a general meeting.
There is no built-in check on the board(s) of the NYSYRs. This amendment would force them to think about the actual members before taking any actions that may not be in our best interest.
So what happened with the proposed amendments?
ReplyDelete- Jack Strickland
I heard the amendments didn't pass and that there was a lot of drama. Can't wait for the Watch's report. I'm curious about what went down.
DeleteWe have heard similar accounts of what happened in the OC.
DeleteFeel free to email us your take. From what we got so far we can say that RG's proposed amendment went down to defeat and went down hard.
We also get the feeling that he and his associates knew that would be the outcome but had ulterior motives for pushing the amendment anyway.
We have reached out to several individuals and will give a complete summary once a few more report back in.
I was there and I can say that the NYSYR meeting was sparsely attended. More than half of those in attendance were either officers of the governing board or there by proxy!
DeleteThe guys that were clearly in charge were both former chairs of the NYSYR (Scaringi and Weingartner). Supulveda seemed clueless and embarrassed at times.
At one point Gallo requested that all delegates expose how they voted in front of everyone. That's when things got out of control. Girlfriends and boyfriends instinctively tried to protect each other. My view (after speaking to "RG") was that he was right that we were all there as delegates and not individuals. We were sent there to represent our clubs and our votes were not our own.
Either way, the reports you received are right. He and his amendment went down hard. Gallo then could be seen laughing as he ran out of the meeting.
A few years ago another brooklyn delegate acted just as wild. (I almost think that Gallo and Judge are still friends after what I witnessed.
I was at the previous meeting with Jonathan "Fire Marshall" Judge went crazy because a contested vote didn't go his way. He stormed out of the meeting room (in Poughkipsee) and yelled that he was going to sue us all in "small claims court." He then went down to the lobby and complained to the manager that we should all be ejected from the building because our meeting was too large and in violation of the fire code.
DeleteNext time someone should record audio or video of these meetings to be posted on line for the world to see.

Rumor has it that there is audio of the meeting in OC....
DeleteVoice votes and all....
;)
Anonymous, if that is true, I'm begging you to post it somewhere and share the link with us.

We also ask that if such a recording exists that it be made public. New York is a one-party state and it is totally legal to record conversations as long as at least one person in the mix consents, which is usually the person recording...
DeleteEmail us!
We suspect that the tapes will never see the light of day since so many of those in attendance will be (or already are) ashamed of the way they conducted themselves.
We have been told by numerous "members" in attendance that every trick in the book was employed to defeat the amendment including personal threats, lies, and deals, not to mention parliamentary procedures designed to stifle debate.
Only time will tell...
Here is what I think, Brooklyn could not have de-credentialed if this amendment was passed. RG did not have the votes and he knows it.
ReplyDeleteAfter speaking to a few YRs that are friendly with RG they now support seceding from the NYSYR after seeing the true colors of the people present in OC and after hearing the stories of those in attendance.
In the end I think RG will now get what he wanted. As ogreish as he is, he seems to have outsmarted the smartest people in the state.
Maybe RG was the one that was outsmarted...
DeleteIf he is stupid enough to do what you say then his BFF DS loses her spot as NYSYR Chair.
I would love to be a fly on the wall in that household if he pulls that...
At one point Jason Weingartner called Russell Gallo, Jefferson Davis. It was hilarious.
ReplyDeleteAlthough most of the people in the room probably didn't know who Jefferson Davis was it was highly inappropriate to compare RG to him.
ReplyDeleteJefferson Davis was a traitor to this country. He was the president of the Confederate States of America.
RG is no Abraham Lincoln but to compare a war vet to a traitor was a little over the top. I know RG and he is a good guy and the NYSYR is certainly no USA!
And when Gallo asked for the minutes from the convention actually be read so that since he wasn't there the corresponding secretary openly laughed at him. After speaking with people that know Gallo I found out why he didn't attend the convention and it wasn't because he was boycotting it. She should be ashamed of herself. I regret my vote.
DeleteDo share.
DeleteWhere was he?
What made you cast your vote the way you did?
Can we unpack this a little further: RG = Jefferson Davis. It seems an apt comparison to me. Both were advocates of secession. RG advocates allowing county clubs to secede from the NYSYR, while Jefferson Davis advocated allowing states to secede from the USA.
DeleteAs far as someone laughing at RG because he required the minutes be read, that's fair game. Everyone knows RG could have read the minutes, and even have asked his insignificant other, Diana Sepulveda to share the proceedings with him. RG only asked that the minutes be read to be an obnoxious obstructionist. Trust me, RG and his actions are laughable.
Sincerely,
Another Anonymous
So the USA = NYSYR?
DeleteNow that's laughable!!!
As a matter of fact JW had the minutes amended after they were read. Good thing someone asked for a little transparency.
And, Jefferson Davis fought against his own country to keep the practice of slavery legal. Still not sure how that comparison is valid.
You see, most of the upper echelon of the NYSYR do not want debate. They want the status quo. Any attempts to participate are labeled obstructionist.
Do as your told young people. Don't question authority.
Late to the conversation, but what the what?!? RG should have used a personal relationship to get access to official meeting minutes? Is that how things are done in the NY State Young Republicans??? Or is that because so much of the "establishment" is "in bed" with each other that they all now assume that pillow talk = official action?
DeleteBetter late than never...
DeleteWelcome aboard.
Although we have to warn you not to question motives here ;)

ReplyDelete"Joe Lhota picks new team of rainmakers for New York mayoral campaign
The Republican candidate is set to hire Jason Weingartner, the state party’s finance director, to direct the money-finding operation, the News has learned."
LMAO.
Let's see how that works for him. Wasn't JW in Orange County this weekend playing with his YR friends?
this all sounds pretty weak to me. why force someone to be in a group they don't want to be in? it's like saying your gonna be my friend whether you want to be or not. ever hear of divorce? lol.
ReplyDeleteIf they dont want to be in it they dont need to attend , they dont have to re-credential their club either. No one is forcing them to come or be there.
Deletei understand they want their website and any reference to them removed from the state yr website and any other communication generated by the nysyrs. seems like a reasonable request. this isn't the soviet union (or is it?). it's a coalition of the willing...
DeleteWell, the soviet union didnt have people put in applications in order to further continue associations with them . So, no . Its not the USSR. -_- ..Yes it is a coalition of the willing, and they willingly and actively re-credentialed for a certain period of time. When that time period is up, they can leave and they do not need to be part of the organization anymore.
DeleteGlad you like the application.
